Steimling Memorial Scholarship

First Scholarship Honoring Former LB Water CEO Awarded

Lock Haven University student athlete from Berks County first recipient

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The first memorial scholarship honoring former LB Water CEO Fred Steimling, a Lock Haven University graduate, has been awarded to a senior from Berks County.

LB Water, a leading provider of waterworks infrastructure products for the water, wastewater, and stormwater industries, created the Fred Steimling Memorial Scholarship in 2017 in consultation with Steimling's family. Beginning with the 2018-2019 academic year, the scholarship will be awarded annually to a member of Lock Haven University's men's or women's varsity soccer team who maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and who demonstrates leadership abilities on campus. Steimling was a member of the university's varsity soccer team.

The first recipient, a criminal justice major, noted that the scholarship would help her complete her studies at the university.

LB Water established the scholarship with an initial gift of $35,000. The company has invited its business partners and friends of Steimling to join in honoring the former CEO, who led the company from 2008 until his death in 2014. LB Water has also pledged to match the first $15,000 in contributions for a total gift of $50,000. To date, the scholarship endowment stands at nearly $39,000 with annual investment returns funding the yearly scholarship award.

"Fred left a lasting impression on so many people at LB Water and throughout the waterworks industry," said Shawn Pulford, the company's current CEO. "The goals of this scholarship are to celebrate our memories of Fred and to give future generations an opportunity to become Fred Steimlings of the world by having a positive impact on our society."

Companies and individuals interested in donating to the scholarship fund should make checks payable to the LHU Foundation and mail them in care of the Fred Steimling Memorial Scholarship to the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, 10 Susquehanna Avenue, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, 17745.
