General Characteristics

LB Water Service, Inc. is seeking a Director of Learning and Development who will report to the CEO.  This position is responsible for planning and leading the professional development and continuous learning of team members at all levels, supporting strategic goals, and promoting the company culture and values.  This director assesses company-wide development needs, develops recommendations, plans, implements, tracks and reports training solutions, and trains selected programs. The individual in this position is actively involved in the succession planning process, coaching and mentoring all manager levels and emerging leaders, and helps to drive LB Water’s ownership culture.

Representative Activities

Key Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Designs, implements, and directs an employee development program and training curriculum to achieve strategic business goals and results.
  • Conducts or manages needs assessments and analyzes results to use when designing development initiatives for all LB Water team members.
  • Creates the overall blueprint/structure for growth and development of LB Water personnel with proactive involvement in the succession planning process and management of the Gap 40 Program.
  • Designs, writes, and/or selects appropriate training materials then evaluates effectiveness based on determined criteria.
  • Trains and/or prepares others to train in areas such as management, leadership, professional development topics, and subject-matter expert facilitation skills; trains all supervisory levels how to effectively coach their employees.
  • Oversees and helps to coordinate culture related initiatives in partnership with executive and senior management to support a working environment consistent with LB Water employee ownership responsibilities, culture and values.
  • Works with various levels of management to help train and build effective teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Partners with HR management to coordinate support of LB Water team members who are seeking career opportunities within the company and those who are not meeting performance expectations.
  • Assesses, monitors, and communicates results of training effectiveness to appropriate levels of leadership.
  • Partners with leadership to develop initiatives to improve productivity.
  • Handles the administrative and operational aspects of the training and development plans such as building training calendars, tracking internal and external trainings/education, generating reports, and managing maintenance of in-house training tools and equipment.
  • Partners with HR and LB Water committees to contribute to and manage selected aspects of the company’s online resource tools.
  • Stays updated on trends and tools in employee training and development, participates in professional industry associations, and actively works on own continuous learning plan.
  • Collaborates with executive management on budget preparation and implementation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coach and provide feedback to subject-matter-experts within LB Water and others who assist in the training and development activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Training and Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources or other related field required
  • Master’s degree in appropriate related field of study preferred
  • Significant work experience as a training manager and/or director including needs assessment, design, delivery, and evaluation of learning and training programs
  • 8+ years of management, coaching and mentoring experience with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Outstanding interpersonal and information gathering skills to relate effectively with all levels throughout the organization
  • Ability to apply a structured approach and methodology to learning and training programs
  • Extensive experience in writing effective training programs and developing materials with specific goals and critical success factors
  • Superior group facilitation and presentation skills
  • Experience in conflict management and collaboration
  • Excellent organization, project, and time management skills; can prioritize multiple tasks and complete on or before deadlines
  • Able to work proactively and independently with minimal or no supervision exhibiting strong work ethic
  • Practiced thought leader in learning and training on how to add value toward the continuous improvement of LB Water
  • Strong problem solver with a strategic and creative mindset
  • Outstanding leader and team player who can build positive working relationships, be flexible and open-minded, help lead collaborative discussions, and contribute to team projects
  • General knowledge of culture related topics and involvement in culture related initiatives
  • Experience with learning management systems required
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency and familiarity with online tools; able to produce visually and verbally engaging training materials
  • Travel Required:Estimate 25% - some travel will be overnight
