Kutztown Senior Receives Steimling Memorial Scholarship

Lock Haven University scholarship honors former LB Water CEO Fred Steimling

September 12, 2019

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University senior Kyle Hartman of Kutztown is the 2019-20 recipient of the Fred Steimling Memorial Scholarship, an award established in 2017 by Selinsgrove-based LB Water in consultation with Steimling’s family. Steimling served as CEO of LB Water – a leading provider of waterworks infrastructure products for the water, wastewater and stormwater industries – from 2008 until his death in 2014.

Beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year, the annual scholarship has been awarded to a member of the Lock Haven University men’s or women’s varsity soccer team who maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and who demonstrates leadership abilities on campus. A Lock Haven graduate, Steimling was a member of the university’s varsity soccer team.

“This scholarship will help me greatly in the long run,” said Hartman, who serves on the university’s student athlete advisory committee. “It’s less money that I have to borrow, which will give me the opportunity to travel during my 20s like I want to. Thank you!”

LB Water endowed the scholarship fund with an initial gift of $35,000 and invited Steimling’s former business partners and friends to join in honoring him. The company pledged to match the first $15,000 in contributions for a total gift of $50,000. Currently, the scholarship endowment stands at $40,155, with annual investment returns funding the award.

"Fred left a lasting impression on so many people at LB Water and throughout the waterworks industry," said Shawn Pulford, the company's current CEO. "The goals of this scholarship are to celebrate our memories of Fred and to give future generations an opportunity to become Fred Steimlings of the world by having a positive impact on our society."

Last year’s scholarship recipient, the first to receive the award, was a senior criminal justice major from Berks County and a member of the university’s varsity women’s soccer team.

Companies and individuals interested in donating to the scholarship fund could make contributions to the LHU Foundation, c/o the Fred Steimling Memorial Scholarship, Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, 10 Susquehanna Avenue, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, 17745.
